Rural Youth Featured in The New Republic Cover Story on the Youth Mental Health Crisis
Rural Youth Mental Wellness Program steering committee members Asheton Medlin and Charlie Moser are featured in The New Republic's October cover story, "The Dire National Crisis That Washington Won't Touch," by Grace Segers.
The piece follows young adults from across the country as they describe isolation, stigma, and gaps in care, and looks at what Washington has and hasn't done to respond. Asheton and Charlie talk about growing up in rural communities where mental health care was far away and rarely discussed, and the article points to CDC data showing rural adults ages 20 to 39 are significantly more likely to die by suicide than their urban counterparts.
