Rural Minds Launches Youth-Led Mental Health Initiative

Rural Minds Founder and Chairman Jeff Winton spoke with WKBW 7 News Buffalo about the launch of the Rural Youth Mental Wellness Program, developed with input from a youth steering committee and in partnership with Northwestern University's Lab for Scalable Mental Health and Koko.

Winton explained that young people on the committee asked for conversation instead of lectures, and that the program's free, anonymous Single Session Interventions take about 10 minutes to complete online with no clinician needed. He also cited CDC data showing the suicide rate for rural youth ages 15 to 19 is 74 percent higher than for their urban peers.
