Rural Minds Joins Meatingplace Webinar on Mental Health in Meat Processing and Agriculture
Rural Minds Founder and Chairman Jeff Winton joined Nichole Sargent, co-owner of Windham Butcher Shop/Southpaw Market in Maine and founder of “Slicing through the Stigma,” for a Meatingplace webinar on mental health in meat processing and agriculture. Meatingplace Managing Editor Peter Thomas Ricci facilitated the discussion.
The conversation focused on the toll that long hours and market pressures take on a largely rural workforce, the limited options available to address it, and what the meat processing industry can do to respond. It also touched on the rural suicide rate, which almost doubled between 2000 and 2020.
